About the Role
This role is crucial for the scientific and technical review of research proposals seeking access to Our Future Health’s data, samples, and participants. You will leverage your scientific expertise and clinical trial knowledge to ensure a robust, transparent, and efficient research access process.
Responsibilities
- Conduct scientific and technical reviews of research proposals, including those involving data, samples, and participant re-contact.
- Apply clinical trials expertise to review relevant research proposals, assessing scientific and technical suitability and identifying potential issues.
- Make independent and pragmatic judgments on research proposals, amendments, and access-related queries, escalating as appropriate.
- Support the oversight and management of the research access process, ensuring efficient and timely proposal reviews.
- Maintain oversight of approved studies throughout their lifecycle, including reviewing amendments, annual reports, and publications.
- Support the Access Governance Manager and wider Access team in developing guidance, training, and responding to researcher queries.
- Identify potentially overlapping or duplicate studies and facilitate scientifically driven collaborations.
- Contribute to the development of Our Future Health policies, procedures, and ways of working.
- Collaborate with teams across Our Future Health, including Access, Science, Technology, and Product, to support programme aims.
Requirements
- A postgraduate degree in life sciences with experience in a postgraduate research environment, a medical degree with experience in epidemiological or clinical research, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Demonstrable experience working with clinical trials and a strong understanding of clinical trial research and associated scientific considerations.
- Experience undertaking scientific research and reviewing research proposals within comparable research programmes or other relevant organisations.
- The ability to critically assess research proposals and make independent, pragmatic judgments on proposals, amendments, and access-related queries.
- Experience of governance processes within health research (e.g., academic, NHS, industry, or charity setting).
- Knowledge of relevant external authorities and regulatory agencies within health research.
- Awareness of ethical and legal issues relating to genetics and genomics, the handling and storage of human tissue, and access to personal and health data.
- The ability to work effectively with colleagues and researchers from a range of disciplines and professional backgrounds.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and work to appropriate review timelines.
- A practical and collaborative approach to navigating complex or uncertain scientific and research governance issues.
