About the Role

Bain's Primary Research capability supports client teams by engaging with a wide range of external research partners. The Specialist / Senior Specialist, Vendor Management and EN Innovation, will manage defined workstreams including vendor administration, quality, compliance, performance, and process innovation. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation and continuous improvement of our research vendor ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Bain’s portfolio of external research vendors, including expert networks, specialist research vendors, and other third parties.
  • Run regular vendor meetings and check-ins, from scheduling and agendas through to notes and following actions through to closure.
  • Track vendor performance, spend, usage, and open issues, identifying trends and escalating concerns.
  • Coordinate vendor onboarding, renewals, amendments, and offboarding in collaboration with Legal, Risk & Compliance, Finance, and other relevant teams.
  • Perform quality, compliance, and documentation checks, resolving routine issues and escalating larger ones with proposed solutions.
  • Contribute to process and innovation initiatives, including piloting new tools, reshaping workflows, gathering feedback, and supporting change adoption.
  • Prepare progress updates, risk assessments, and decision recommendations for the Manager.
  • Build effective working relationships across research, Legal, Risk & Compliance, Finance, technology, and client-service teams.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for vendor and internal queries, resolving most directly and escalating complex or sensitive matters.
  • Maintain accurate, current, and user-friendly process documentation, templates, and shared repositories.

Requirements

  • 3–6 years in vendor or supplier management, operations, procurement, professional services, external talent, research operations, or a related field; the upper end of the range points to Senior Specialist level.
  • Experience with Expert Networks/ contingent recruitment.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams concurrently with limited direction.
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to follow-through.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare concise and easy-to-understand updates and materials.
  • Proficiency in working with performance, spend, and usage data, with strong Excel skills for data analysis.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams, even when priorities differ.
  • Sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential vendor, commercial, or client information.
  • Background in expert networks, primary research, survey vendors, external talent providers, or knowledge and research operations.
  • Experience in risk, compliance, vendor quality, or third-party management.
  • Familiarity with workflow, ticketing, procurement, or contract management tools.
  • Exposure to commercial discussions, contract tracking, or vendor performance conversations.
  • Experience in consulting, financial services, or another fast-paced client-service environment.
  • Comfort working across time zones with colleagues in different locations.
