Responsibilities
- Design straightforward circuits for the Outboard product range, including control, interface, power, and connectivity hardware.
- Produce and update schematics and PCB layouts for simpler boards and modifications.
- Build, test, and fault-find prototypes and production units.
- Assist senior engineers with spatial audio hardware, including measurement, characterization, bring-up support, and documentation.
- Specify and build test fixtures and production test procedures.
- Act as the day-to-day point of contact for contract manufacturers and assembly partners.
- Liaise with engineering and operations colleagues across Focusrite Group companies.
- Manage engineering change requests and maintain version control for designs and documentation.
- Implement a ticketing and tracking process for changes, queries, and issues.
- Monitor component obsolescence, identify alternatives, and maintain accurate bills of materials.
- Support sourcing activities by requesting quotes, comparing options, and chasing lead times.
- Maintain accurate engineering records, including drawings, revisions, change history, and test results.
- Support compliance and certification activities.
- Diagnose field issues on returned units and provide feedback for design improvements.
Requirements
- A degree in Electronic Engineering or a closely related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Confident understanding of electronics fundamentals, including reading schematics and reasoning about circuits.
- Practical competence with lab equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and soldering irons.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple open tasks.
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Exposure to schematic capture or PCB layout tools (Altium, KiCad or similar) is desirable.
- Mechanical CAD experience using tools like SolidWorks is desirable.
- Analogue circuit knowledge, particularly in audio, is desirable.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, PCB assembly, or supply chain work is desirable.
- Experience with structured change control, ticketing, or documentation systems is desirable.
- Interest in audio, music technology, or live sound is desirable.
