About the Role
This role of Technical Application Expert (TAE) serves as the primary technical consultant to customers and internal stakeholders, expected to work closely with Sales to proactively identify, qualify, shape, and advance business opportunities. The role requires translating customer needs and technical challenges into value-based solutions, developing strong technical relationships with key accounts, influencing specification and product selection decisions, and supporting the progression of opportunities through the sales pipeline to drive business growth.
Responsibilities
- Represent Merck’s Excipients & Biopharma Chemicals expertise through customer-facing interactions, providing technical guidance, application support, and solution-based recommendations while actively supporting the progression of commercial opportunities
- Translate customer challenges into application-based solutions, provide technical support and consultation, and identify opportunities to expand product adoption within strategic and key accounts.
- Work closely with Sales to identify, shape, and progress commercial opportunities, supporting pre-sales activities, customer engagement, and the promotion of Excipients & Biopharma Chemicals products, solutions, and capabilities
- Partner with Sales to qualify and advance high-value opportunities, driving Competition Conversion, New Product Introduction, Product Adoption, and Application Based Selling initiatives.
- Identify customer needs and provide technical guidance to ensure effective product application within regulatory requirements.
- Serve as a hybrid Technical Application Expert (TAE), leveraging deep expertise in Excipients & Biopharma Chemicals to provide technical leadership and collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Product Management, R&D, Technical Consultants, and Strategy teams to develop customer-centric solutions, enable value selling, and drive sustainable business growth in Japan.
- Leverage market knowledge, scientific expertise, and customer insights to support opportunity identification, development, and commercialization, while building strong technical relationships across large and small molecule accounts in Japan.
- Drive business growth by identifying customer needs and strategic opportunities aligned with regional goals.
- Assess and prioritize customer projects through effective evaluation of technical and commercial requirements.
- Support the full opportunity lifecycle, from prospecting and solution development to customer adoption.
- Drive the adoption and growth of Excipients & Biopharma Chemicals by supporting new product launches, customer engagement, and technical value selling
- Capture customer insights, market feedback, and commercial learnings, and communicate them to leadership, business, and strategy teams to support best practices, identify gaps, and strengthen future growth initiatives
- Gather and share market, customer, and competitor insights to support business strategy and product development.
- Maintain strong product and application knowledge through continuous learning and knowledge-sharing programs.
- Build strong relationships with key customers, industry experts, and opinion leaders to strengthen Merck’s market presence and technical leadership
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceuticals, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering or other relevant field with 5-7 years of experience.
- Masters or Post doctorate degree in Pharmaceutics or Biotechnology along with 4-5 years of experience in the classical pharmaceutics or biologics manufacturing or techno commercial role in excipient industry.
