About the Role
Lead Product Compliance and Trade Compliance functions for chemical substances, ensuring global and local compliance in Japan. Manage the Japan Product Compliance team responsible for regulatory strategy, registrations/notifications, labeling and SDS updates, product classification, and audit readiness. Collaborate cross-functionally to drive compliant and sustainable product lifecycle management. Report to the Head of Product Compliance Japan. Ensure compliance through chemical registration, regulatory judgment, and consultation.
Responsibilities
- Manage Japan Product Compliance team
- Develop regulatory strategy
- Handle registrations/notifications
- Update labeling and SDS
- Perform product classification
- Ensure audit readiness
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Product Development, Commercial teams, and overseas product compliance teams
- Drive compliant and sustainable product lifecycle management
- Provide regulatory judgment and consultation to internal/external stakeholders
- Author SDS and create labels for commercial products and samples using SAP/EHS
- Monitor Japan chemical laws and regulations and implement necessary actions proactively
- Perform chemical registration under the Chemical Substance Control Law and Industrial Safety and Health Law
- Complete annual reporting to Japanese authorities
- Respond to customer inquiries in cooperation with Business, Global Marketing Manager, and Quality departments
- Apply for and renew business licenses (e.g., strategic goods, narcotic raw material, poisonous and deleterious substances)
- Create customs clearance reports for import
- Classify strategic goods for export control and assign HS codes
- Manage trade compliance using the Global Trading System (GTS connected to SAP)
- Support R&D activities such as New Product Introduction (NPI) and sample shipments for domestic and overseas customers via K2
- Act as SAP/EHS key user for Japan
- Collaborate with global data maintenance (RSE) and IT teams for SAP EHS content and template updates
- Resolve EHS-related issues and conduct testing for modifications
- Participate in global ERP projects as a representative of Japan product compliance
Requirements
- Experience in Product Compliance and Trade Compliance for chemical substances
- Experience ensuring global and local compliance in Japan
- Experience managing a team
- Experience with regulatory strategy, registrations/notifications, labeling and SDS updates, product classification, and audit readiness
- Experience collaborating cross-functionally
- Experience driving compliant and sustainable product lifecycle management
- Experience with chemical registration under the Chemical Substance Control Law and Industrial Safety and Health Law
- Experience with annual reporting to Japanese authorities
- Experience responding to customer inquiries
- Experience applying for and renewing business licenses (strategic goods, narcotic raw material, poisonous and deleterious substances)
- Experience creating customs clearance reports for import
- Experience classifying strategic goods for export control and assigning HS codes
- Experience managing trade compliance using Global Trading System (GTS)
- Experience supporting R&D activities (NPI, sample shipments)
- Experience as an SAP/EHS key user
- Experience working with global data maintenance and IT teams for SAP EHS content and template updates
- Experience resolving EHS-related issues and conducting testing
- Experience participating in global ERP projects
