About the Role

Join Eaton's IS AER ITD division as a Customs Lead in Tijuana, Mexico. This role is critical for ensuring compliance with Mexico's customs and international trade regulations, overseeing import/export operations, and leading a high-performing team. You will enhance productivity, manage reporting, and govern trade policies to support business objectives and mitigate risk.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee import and export operations, ensuring compliance with customs regulations.
  • Lead and develop a team, enhancing productivity and managing key reporting activities.
  • Govern trade policies to support business objectives and mitigate risk.
  • Collaborate with Mexico GTM Manager, US GTM Manager, and VAT Certification Manager.
  • Identify, escalate, and resolve customs-related challenges.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with reporting management, including Annual IMMEX report, Annex 30 Monthly presentation, and Monthly Presentation of INEGI reports.
  • Administer USMCA and FTA programs, sub-manufacturer reports, and customs broker billing reports.
  • Manage Balance Score card, VAT and OEA / CTPAT certification Self-Assessment/maintenance, and supplier audits.
  • Oversee IMMEX compliance Self-Assessment, profile updates, and certification.
  • Manage MLA Annual Report and ITAR compliance.
  • Handle Value Reconciliation.
  • Create internal procedures to enhance import and export trade operations and ensure compliance with international customs regulations, aligning with Eaton standards.
  • Provide analytical support for new international activities, acquisitions, initiatives, and projects.
  • Communicate policy, procedures, and economic issues affecting the business.
  • Assist in providing training, advice, and guidance to other internal areas.
  • Coordinate with the COE (VAT and GTM) supervisor and serve as the local liaison for classification, FTA’s, and VAT certification compliance.
  • Ensure the correct applicability of Governmental programs.
  • Stay up-to-date with laws and customs regulations applicable to import and export trade operations.
  • Ensure business compliance with Mexican and International Customs Law and Customs Regulations, including accurate open customs balance.
  • Administer and supervise the Annex 24 Software.
  • Administer ANNEX 30 (VAT Tax Credit Reports).
  • Implement new import/export rules published by the authority.
  • Maintain control of temporary fixed asset inventory.
  • Ensure proper application of Export Licenses.
  • Oversee proper procedures for US Reconciliation.
  • Process machinery & equipment transitions accurately and timely.
  • Process virtual import/exports operations accurately and timely.
  • Ensure proper recordkeeping for import/export transactions and Free-Trade Agreements.
  • Manage staff, including career development, performance management, and organizational development.
  • Identify compliance problems and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Manage visitor access for Trade Compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in International Commerce, Customs, Trade Compliance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in Trade Compliance, Customs, Import/Export Operations, or related areas.
  • Experience in the administration of special trade programs and initiatives that drive operational efficiencies, cost savings, and business value.
  • Proven experience ensuring compliance with import/export regulations, customs requirements, corporate policies, and industry best practices.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with IMMEX Program Administration and Mexican customs regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with significant decision-making responsibility within a highly matrixed global organization.
  • Adaptable and resilient professional with the ability to navigate evolving priorities, regulatory changes, and business needs while maintaining a strong focus on results.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, including team development and stakeholder management.
  • Ability to influence across functions and organizational levels.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish required.
  • Participation in video and in-person interviews may be required.
