About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to enhance our application team's implementation and review capabilities. This role focuses on feature development for our Django/Vue platform, which supports over 3,000 healthcare facilities in maintaining safety and compliance through our IoT device fleet. This is an empowered individual contributor role designed for rapid, independent work with significant technical depth.
Responsibilities
- Ship features end to end with high velocity and quality, including scoping, design, building, releasing, and iterating based on customer feedback with minimal oversight.
- Within 6 months, assume ownership of one or more application modules, serving as the authority on their design, quality, and roadmap input.
- Dedicate approximately 30% of time to code reviews, providing fast, rigorous, and constructive feedback to maintain team velocity and codebase health.
- Own production bugs and issues within assigned modules as part of the on-call/bug triage rotation, resolving them promptly and keeping affected users informed.
- Enhance the performance and maintainability of owned modules through targeted refactors and query optimization.
- Independently acquire knowledge of new domains and tools to reduce lead time for the team.
Requirements
- 6+ years of professional software development experience.
- 3+ years of experience in a fast-moving startup or high-velocity environment.
- Proven track record of high personal output, delivering complex features quickly without compromising quality.
- Demonstrated experience solving challenging technical problems, such as application scaling, large refactors, or performance bottlenecks.
- Comfortable with operational ownership, including debugging production issues and managing resolutions.
- Proficient with AI coding tools for an efficient personal workflow.
Skills
- Strong backend depth in Python.
- Django experience strongly preferred; comparable framework experience with strong fundamentals is acceptable.
- Deep PostgreSQL expertise, including schema design, query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning.
- Highly independent, with the ability to learn new domains and tools autonomously and make sound technical decisions with minimal guidance.
- Strong code review skills, providing thorough and fast feedback that enhances code quality without hindering team progress.
- Front-end experience with Vue.js (Bonus).
- Experience with IoT devices and LoRaWAN (Bonus).
- Experience with AWS and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) in production (Bonus).
- Experience building compliance-related software (Bonus).
