About the Role

The Temporary Digital Navigator provides individualized or small group assistance to seniors in Districts 9 and 11, helping them access affordable home internet, electronic devices, and develop digital skills. This role bridges the digital divide and isolation, promoting equitable internet access for seniors and adults with disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct client assessments to determine training and resource needs for internet access, devices, and technology use.
  • Create digital program plans including training, resource connections, and internet use priorities.
  • Develop digital Individual Service Plans in coordination with clients.
  • Disseminate information on affordable home internet services and assist clients with applications.
  • Coach clients on using home internet services to meet their priorities, including in-person, phone, and online interactions.
  • Advise clients on technology use, purchase, repairs, and technical support.
  • Provide timely follow-up for referrals and track client progress and requests.
  • Maintain accurate records and report outcomes as required.
  • Track emerging needs and advocate for digital equity efforts and inclusion policies.
  • Create monthly narratives summarizing activities, challenges, successes, and needs for reporting.
  • Manage assistance to clients to achieve agreed-upon goals.
  • Conduct group and individual workshops in person and on Zoom.
  • Perform other tasks as necessary.

Requirements

  • Two years of prior experience working with seniors and disabled adults preferred.
  • One year of prior experience in outreach, engagement, and community work preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Platforms, Google, Internet, social media, and cell phone devices.
  • Ability to learn and utilize Slack, Asana, Salesforce, and similar tools for communication and tracking.
  • Ability to learn and teach basic technological concepts related to internet services, computer/device characteristics, and common online services to older adults and those with limited technology comfort.
  • Ability to create simplified course curriculum and client training plans for older adults and individuals with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and language capacity for a diverse audience.
  • Willingness to learn and implement cultural humility practices.
  • Knowledge and understanding of cultural humility and trauma-informed practices.
  • Ability to help clients navigate BHNC and San Francisco-based services.
  • Ability to assess and refer clients to services and the service team.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (in person, online, telephone) to build rapport and trust.
  • Positive and resilient attitude, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor.
  • Technically savvy self-starter with a commitment to serve the population.
  • Provide excellent customer service, offer well-thought-out solutions, establish appropriate boundaries, and demonstrate innovation and flexibility.
  • Must possess a valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving history for a minimum of 3 years.
  • Requires frequent sitting, typing, and computer use.
  • Occasionally requires pushing and/or pulling objects, walking up and down stairs and/or hills, lifting and/or carrying up to 25 lbs.
  • Requires the ability to frequently move about or remain seated depending on the task at hand.
