About the Role

The Admissions Counselor I serves as a primary university contact for prospective students, applicants, admitted students, families, counselors, and community partners. This role provides guidance throughout the college-selection, admission, and enrollment process, represents the university through recruitment activities, and uses data and relationship-building to advance institutional enrollment goals. The position collaborates with various university departments to support student transitions and create a coherent experience from initial engagement through enrollment.

Responsibilities

  • Advise prospective students, applicants, admitted students, and families throughout the college-selection, admission, and enrollment process.
  • Respond to questions through phone, email, virtual engagement, and in-person meetings, providing individualized guidance and connecting students with university resources.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate recruitment activities using territory data, engagement indicators, and institutional priorities.
  • Represent the university at high school, community college, regional, community-based, and on-campus recruitment programs and events.
  • Support Longhorn Orientation and First-Year Experience, Pathways, Partnerships and Pipelines programs and events.
  • Travel frequently throughout the assigned territory and other areas, operating a vehicle as needed.
  • Present clear and accurate information about the undergraduate experience, academic opportunities, educational value, admission and enrollment processes, pathways, orientation, and first-year transition.
  • Tailor presentations and outreach to the needs of students, families, counselors, and community partners.
  • Build and sustain relationships with high schools, school districts, community colleges, alumni, community-based organizations, businesses, and educational or pathway partners.
  • Maintain regular communication, learn partner priorities, identify collaboration opportunities, and share feedback.
  • Promote awareness of available admission pathways and identify students who may benefit from them.
  • Support pathway outreach, recruitment, referrals, and transition activities.
  • Maintain timely and accurate records of student interactions and outcomes in Slate.
  • Review admission applications and meet established productivity, quality, timeliness, and confidentiality expectations.
  • Participate in scholarship review and related processes as assigned.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer.
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience providing customer service and assisting, advising, or counseling students.
  • Experience preparing and delivering presentations to varied audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills and a professional demeanor.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, priorities, deadlines, and travel commitments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, customer databases, or customer relationship management systems.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet applicable university driving requirements.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
  • More than two years of customer service, admissions, recruitment, advising, or student-support experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with students on a college or university campus in a student service-oriented role is preferred.
  • Experience with The University of Texas at Austin policies, procedures, academic offerings, programs, and student life is preferred.
  • Experience working for a competitive or highly selective institution and communicating professionally and empathetically with students and families is preferred.
  • Requires a class "C" operator's driver's license.
  • Must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence.
  • Must obtain a Texas driver's license within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident if not currently a Texas resident.
  • Employees requiring a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing.
  • A criminal history background check will be required for finalist(s).
  • If hired, you will be required to complete the federal Employment Eligibility Verification I-9 form.
  • Must present acceptable and original documents to prove identity and work authorization no later than the third day of employment.
  • The University of Texas at Austin uses E-Verify to check the work authorization of all new hires.
