About the Role
Pronto AI is a global leader in commercializing autonomous vehicle (AV) technology, deploying Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS) that automate operations in mines, quarries, and construction sites worldwide. We are on a mission to make mining operations safer, smarter, and more efficient through cutting-edge technology, and we are building toward becoming the world’s first profitable AV technology company.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain the off-road truck safety case, including claims, evidence, limits, and open items.
- Conduct hazard analysis for installations, site conditions, and their combinations, driving results into requirements and site controls.
- Define test preparation procedures, acceptance criteria, and evidence requirements for autonomous truck operation.
- Manage the commissioning readiness gate, specifying when a site is not ready for autonomous operation.
- Own the incident intake path, severity model, investigations, and corrective actions through to verified closure.
- Assess the impact of software releases, new truck variants, or site layouts on the safety argument and determine necessary pre-deployment actions.
- Grow and lead a small team of engineers, with the safety case, commissioning gate, and investigations remaining as core responsibilities.
- Utilize AI tooling for drafting risk assessments, adapting procedures, triaging events, and identifying cross-site patterns.
- Build and maintain custom tooling to support safety case development and operations.
- Ensure safety determinations are based on human review of evidence and site assessment, not solely on generated lists.
Requirements
- 8+ years in systems safety, safety engineering, or a closely related systems discipline in a safety-critical domain.
- Experience building a safety argument from scratch (claims, evidence, structure) and defending its sufficiency.
- In-depth structured hazard analysis at both system and operational levels, with the judgment to select appropriate methods.
- Experience writing investigation, triage, and qualification processes.
- Comfortable leading one or two people while retaining ownership of the safety case.
- Proficiency in Python or SQL for working with event data.
- Willingness to travel to sites as needed.
