About the Role
Sanitation Workers are responsible for cleaning the streets, sidewalks, and plazas of Times Square in all weather conditions, ensuring a high quality of life for the public.
Responsibilities
- Sweep sidewalks of all litter and up to 18 inches into the roadway, placing litter in a pushable barrel.
- Sweep plazas of all litter.
- Inform Supervisors of severe litter conditions, street/sidewalk encumbrances, and quality-of-life issues.
- Remove stickers and graffiti from poles and buildings as assigned.
- Empty all city-owned and Alliance-owned litter baskets on the assigned route.
- Clear crosswalks and catch basins, including Duffy Square, in the event of snow.
- Provide support for Alliance-sponsored events.
- Remove litter and debris after special events.
- Clear and return planters, tables, chairs, and umbrellas from Plazas before and after events.
- Move litter baskets, including BigBelly Solar receptacles, when requested.
- Water plants as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be able to push a 40-gallon tank to distribute water in planters.
- Must be able to push a 2 cu.yd mobile bin filled with 7 or 8 trash bags to the drop point.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. bags of garbage.
- May need to lift up to 70 lb. bollards, etc.
- Must be able to stand and walk for up to 4 hours while on route.
- Must be respectful and polite to the public, providing name when requested by officials.
- Must be able to respond and carry out tasks assigned in a timely and orderly fashion.
- Must be available to work major Alliance sponsored events.
- Must be able to maintain a good attendance record.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
