About the Role

As an actuary in Guardian’s Actuarial Leadership Development Program (ALDP), you will develop a thorough understanding of our products and how your job responsibilities contribute towards achieving the goals of Guardian. The program also focuses on developing versatile future leaders with cross-functional business acumen and leadership skills. You will assist in performing financial and non-financial analysis and make recommendations consistent with Guardian’s goals regarding growth and profitability. As part of ALDP, expect to rotate departments every 18 to 24 months, providing the opportunity for a breadth of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize internal and external data sources to better understand industry trends, clients, competitors, and the regulatory environment
  • Complete assignments on time and according to specifications provided by your supervisor as independently as possible, recognizing situations where managerial guidance is needed
  • Execute rate development and state rate filings that support the strategic goals set forth by the Group Finance Strategy Team
  • Provide actuarial support for product, underwriting, finance, and distribution initiatives impacting pricing models and resulting rates
  • Recommend and actively support the use of new and advanced techniques to modernize the pricing approach and improve accuracy

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a mathematics-based field
  • Regularly taking actuarial exams to pursue the Actuarial Fellow designation in the Society of Actuaries
  • A minimum of two years of prior work experience in the actuarial field
  • Proficient in MS Excel as well as experience in using actuarial modeling / data visualization software
  • Ability to communicate pricing analyses to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to contribute to multiple projects with multiple deliverables simultaneously
  • Strong analytical and technical skills with the ability to synthesize sophisticated information
  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science
  • Actuarial Associate designation in the Society of Actuaries
  • 3-5 years of prior work experience in the actuarial field
  • An understanding of group pricing practices including the use of experience
  • Prior work experience in Group Pricing, particularly Disability coverage
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States, without the need for employer sponsorship/support now or at any time in the future
