About the Role
The Assistant Manager, Facility Services will manage the day-to-day activities of assigned department personnel, ensuring efficient, customer-focused delivery of housekeeping and other services. They will provide guidance and training to departmental staff and resolve service delivery issues, working weekends and some evenings to support building operations.
Responsibilities
- Manages the delivery of services provided to the institution, focusing on efficient processes and resolving operational concerns and conflicts.
- Conducts regular inspections of work provided by facility services and takes appropriate action to resolve health & safety, customer service, building, or maintenance issues.
- Manages the work performance of subordinate departmental staff through training, assigning, scheduling, monitoring quality, and providing feedback.
- Provides health & safety training in compliance with OHS legislation and standards.
- Assists in the hiring process.
- Assists with the development and management of the budget for labour and materials related to housekeeping.
- Identifies efficiencies in departmental systems, work processes, and supply costs.
- Identifies equipment and material needs and ensures adequate stock, materials, and equipment are on hand.
- Manages labour relations issues at the complaint stage, investigating and working toward resolution.
Requirements
- Comprehensive knowledge of cleaning and housekeeping principles, procedures, and work standards.
- Several years of directly related experience.
- Knowledge of facility operation procedures: mail, shipping/receiving, maintenance, material handling, inventory.
- Working knowledge of appropriate computer systems.
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated labour management and supervisory skills in a unionized environment.
- Demonstrated customer service excellence.
- Well-developed administrative, organizational, and trouble-shooting skills.
- Well-developed interpersonal and team building skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety, WHMIS, and safety regulations and practices.
