About the Role

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Assistant Director provides site-based leadership to support positive youth development and outcomes, meeting the needs of families and the school community. This role ensures compliance with licensing and funder requirements, maintains program data, and creates systems for managing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the smooth, effective, and successful functioning of the Program.
  • Provides direct support and supervision to Program staff and participants.
  • Recruits and registers participants, ensuring enrollment numbers are met.
  • Attends required OCFS and DOH/SACC meetings, training, and conferences.
  • Meets and documents required 30 hours of SACC training every two years.
  • Works closely with administration on updated OCFS policies, new data, current trends, and program changes.
  • Ensures all DYCD/OCFS performance targets are met and activities align with the DYCD work plan.
  • Ensures participant files are completed, updated, and maintained according to DYCD, OCFS, and DOH requirements.
  • Assists the Program Director in completing all required reports.
  • Assists the Program Director in preparing/reviewing timesheets and submitting them for processing.
  • Utilizes principles of positive youth development through behavior management and discipline techniques.
  • Builds positive relationships with and among participants, acting as a role model.
  • Helps create program schedules and enrolls participants in activities.
  • Utilizes formal program feedback to improve program design.
  • Organizes and implements special projects.
  • Assists in planning, coordination, and supervision of special events, projects, and field trips.
  • Ensures academic, social, cultural, vocational, and recreational components are implemented effectively.
  • Assists the Program Director with hiring and supervision of all program staff.
  • Assists Program Director in scheduling and holding regular meetings with staff, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Maintains and updates required logs and program database(s).
  • Supervises and supports program delivery staff on facilitation, health & safety, and youth development principles.
  • Ensures proper staff coverage for scheduled and unscheduled time off.
  • Meets with parents and assists with planning and conducting staff and program orientation sessions.
  • Coordinates with the Program Director on providing family/caregiver support and resources.
  • Complies with and enforces all health and safety guidelines and regulations.
  • Works with participants to resolve incidents (medical or behavioral) and communicates with parents as necessary.
  • Informs the Program Director of any issues and provides written statements when necessary.
  • Ensures all staff have appropriate training and documentation, including clearances and certifications.
  • Participates in meetings and workshops to enhance professional skills.
  • Works with directors and staff developers to improve professional skills.
  • Applies acquired skills and knowledge to improve program quality.
  • Assists Program Director in designing a comprehensive professional development curriculum for staff.

Requirements

  • Must have a passion for working with youth and be willing to go above and beyond program mandates.
  • Must be team-oriented.
  • Must be extremely organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask.
  • Must be able to take initiative and work independently on tasks.
  • Must be able to effectively prioritize responsibilities, set and meet deadlines.
  • Must possess strong communication & writing skills.
  • Must have at least two years’ experience working with youth in a youth program setting.
  • Must have two years’ supervisory experience administering youth programs.
