About the Role
Provides professional lactation care through assessment, intervention, evaluation, education, and follow-up for breastfeeding women affiliated with Danbury Hospital and the community. Utilizes the nursing process in collaboration with the healthcare team to implement a plan of care tailored to the needs of each breastfeeding family.
Responsibilities
- Conducts ongoing and systematic assessment of the breastfeeding dyad, considering the patient's physiological, psychological, and cognitive status.
- Develops a plan of care using the nursing process to educate and guide nursing staff and patients in appropriate management for breastfeeding success.
- Collaborates with the healthcare team to implement a consistent and continuous plan of care specific to the breastfeeding patient's needs.
- Prioritizes consultations, interventions, and education based on maternal/infant status, learning needs, length of stay, and available resources.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of lactation consultant interventions, the plan of care, and patient progress towards expected outcomes using an interdisciplinary approach.
- Provides breastfeeding support and education to staff and patients within Danbury Hospital and the community.
- Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- State of CT Registered Nurse
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program
- Minimum 3 years of experience
- Master's in nursing
- Significant manual skills, motor coordination, and finger dexterity required.
- Significant occupational risk involved.
- Ability to exert up to 50 lbs of force (Very Heavy effort).
- Significant exposure to dirt, odor, noise, human waste, etc.
