About the Role
Fender Musical Instruments Corporation is seeking an Industrial Designer II to assist in developing drawings, high-fidelity renderings, and concept models for product exteriors. This role involves researching materials and proposing manufacturing processes, with design scope informed by user research and feedback.
Responsibilities
- Develop overall product design concepts based on initial feedback and Product Requirements Document (PRD) information.
- Conduct user studies and compile results for feedback to R&D and the Product Team.
- Design front and rear panel graphics, material coverings/finishes, componentry, and concept designs for guitar amplifiers, speakers, electronics products, accessories, or guitar componentry.
- Collaborate with engineers and Product Marketing on conceptual design work, including ergonomics, material, or process issues.
- Create graphic renderings for new product design presentations to Marketing.
- Assist the graphic designer and technical writer with overflow work.
- Interact with vendors providing materials for product cosmetic aspects.
- Demonstrate open-mindedness, self-motivation, and a team-player attitude.
- Work collaboratively with individuals from different company organizations.
- Present designs effectively.
- Select materials suitable for consumer product use.
- Utilize good interpersonal skills.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Degree in Industrial Design or Equivalent.
- 3-5 Years of Experience.
- Proficiency in Macintosh/PC based software including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Freehand, Solidworks, InDesign, Word, and Keyshot Rendering.
- Manual artwork skills including good sketching and color abilities, and experience with Cintiq screen.
- Prototype modeling skills.
- Strong communication skills for interaction with Marketing and Engineering.
- Demonstrated creativity.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team player with people from different organizations in the company.
- Good design presentation skills.
- Some knowledge with the selection of materials suitable for consumer product use.
- Good interpersonal skills.
