About the Role

Provide strategic and operational leadership for pharmacy corporate operations across UHN, overseeing medication-use systems, pharmacy operations, sterile compounding services, inventory management, pharmacy technology, and regulatory compliance. Lead strategic planning, operational improvement, and organizational change initiatives aligned with organizational priorities. Direct workforce planning, resource allocation, and budget management activities. Promote quality improvement, medication safety, accreditation readiness, and compliance with applicable standards and legislation. Collaborate with stakeholders to advance patient care and operational excellence. Lead the implementation of innovative models of care, digital transformation initiatives, and enterprise-wide projects. Develop and mentor leaders while supporting staff engagement, succession planning, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee medication-use systems, pharmacy operations, sterile compounding services, inventory management, pharmacy technology, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead strategic planning, operational improvement, and organizational change initiatives aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Direct workforce planning, resource allocation, and budget management activities.
  • Promote quality improvement, medication safety, accreditation readiness, and compliance with applicable standards and legislation.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nursing leaders, allied health professionals, administrators, and external stakeholders to advance patient care and operational excellence.
  • Lead the implementation of innovative models of care, digital transformation initiatives, and enterprise-wide projects.
  • Develop and mentor leaders while supporting staff engagement, succession planning, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BScPhm) from an accredited institution.
  • If holding a BScPhm, a Master's degree in Health Administration (MHA), Business Administration (MBA), Leadership, or a related discipline is required.
  • Licensed, or eligible for licensure, with the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in hospital pharmacy, healthcare operations, or a complex health system environment.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading managers, multidisciplinary teams, and large-scale operational programs.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing medication-use systems, pharmacy operations, sterile compounding, inventory management, pharmacy technology, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven ability to lead strategic planning, operational improvement, and organizational change initiatives in a complex healthcare setting.
  • Experience managing significant operating budgets, workforce planning, and resource allocation.
  • Strong knowledge of Accreditation Canada standards, medication safety principles, quality improvement methodologies, and relevant provincial and federal legislation.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, stakeholder engagement, and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nursing leaders, allied health professionals, administrators, and external partners.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, staff engagement, and the development of high-performing teams.
  • Experience in an academic health sciences centre, large teaching hospital, or multi-site healthcare organization is preferred.
  • Training or certification in Lean, Six Sigma, Project Management Professional (PMP), Prosci Change Management, or equivalent methodologies is considered an asset.
  • Experience leading digital transformation initiatives, including optimization of EPIC, automated dispensing technologies, pharmacy robotics, business intelligence, and analytics platforms, is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated success implementing innovative models of care, operational redesign, and enterprise-wide transformation projects is considered an asset.
  • Active involvement in professional organizations, research, teaching, residency training, or healthcare leadership initiatives is considered an asset.
