The New York Times is seeking an Executive Producer to lead 'The Interview,' a show featuring conversations with artists, politicians, athletes, and influential figures. This role involves driving the show's creative and editorial direction, growing its audience across various platforms, and managing the production team. Experience in an ideas-driven magazine environment is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Lead the overall editorial and creative strategy for The Interview, setting editorial goals and guiding coverage.
- Oversee the editorial quality of each episode, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and Times standards.
- Manage workflow for efficient and sustainable production of multiple episodes.
- Collaborate with hosts, bookers, and editors to secure compelling guests.
- Own all expressions of the show across platforms and mediums, including packaging and titles.
- Coordinate with video operations and the Shows team to shape the visual identity.
- Collaborate with the Magazine's photo, fact-checking, and copy departments.
- Cultivate relationships with Times journalists for interview preparation.
- Lead communication and feedback with the masthead on high-profile interviews.
- Manage and mentor a team of producers, setting expectations and supporting growth.
- Work with the audience team to analyze trends and inform editorial decisions.
- Foster a culture of productive experimentation to adapt to the evolving media landscape.
- Demonstrate support for journalistic independence and the company's mission.
Requirements
- 15 years of experience leading editorial teams, including significant experience running a host-driven conversational audio or video show.
- Strong experience working on high-profile interviews in culture and politics.
- Highly skilled in all aspects of show-level editing, including structuring, pacing, and reviewing cuts.
- Experience managing and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
- Comfortable interpreting platform analytics and audience insights.
- Strong organization and communication skills.
- Ability to make decisions and set priorities in a fast-moving news environment.
- Belief in The New York Times's mission and dedication to innovation and growth.
