About the Role

The Dalton School seeks a full-time High School Psychologist or Master Level Clinician for a leave replacement position to provide clinical counseling and consultation supporting the mental health and well-being of high school students.

Responsibilities

  • Provide short-term individual counseling to high school students for social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health concerns.
  • Conduct clinical and risk assessments, respond to mental health crises, and develop safety plans.
  • Develop and implement short-term interventions and coping strategies.
  • Support students with issues including anxiety, depression, stress, relationships, identity development, family concerns, substance use, and grief.
  • Determine when additional evaluation or higher levels of care are needed and facilitate referrals.
  • Maintain clinical boundaries, confidentiality, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and the High School Clinical Team to coordinate support.
  • Communicate with outside therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, and other providers.
  • Coordinate school-based and community-based mental health services and ensure continuity of care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case consultations and provide clinical expertise.
  • Review clinical evaluations and communicate findings and recommendations to school professionals.
  • Collaborate with the Learning Support Team to implement recommendations.
  • Participate in student support meetings and identify students needing intervention or referral.
  • Provide clinical consultation to parents/guardians regarding adolescent mental health and development.
  • Assist families in understanding and responding to mental health or behavioral concerns.
  • Provide referrals and resources to outside clinicians and community services.
  • Facilitate communication among students, families, school professionals, and outside providers.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and clinically appropriate documentation in the school’s database.
  • Maintain student confidentiality while communicating necessary information for safety and care coordination.

Requirements

  • Must have a doctoral degree in a mental health field and current clinical licensure.
  • Demonstrated clinical experience providing counseling or psychotherapy to adolescents; experience with high school-aged students required.
  • Experience with clinical assessment, risk assessment, crisis intervention, and/or care coordination preferred.
  • Experience working in a school, particularly an independent school setting, strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of adolescent development and contemporary mental health concerns.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Sound clinical judgment, strong professional boundaries, and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to supporting students within an inclusive school community.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without needing sponsorship.
