About the Role
This role is responsible for defining, developing, and implementing strategy for assigned commodities, including supplier panel management and optimization. The position involves leading negotiations, influencing design for cost and lead time, and supporting bid processes with market intelligence.
Responsibilities
- Define, develop, and implement strategy for assigned commodity, including supplier panel management and optimization.
- Lead negotiations, including timelines and decision-making processes, to secure optimal commercial and technical packages.
- Collaborate with NPI Engineering during early design stages to influence cost and lead time, promoting standardization, modularization, and upstream integration.
- Support Bids & Proposal teams with supplier market intelligence for future business pursuits and RFP support.
- Direct Business Analyst on bid BOM evaluation, target cost, RFx, and identification of procurement risks.
- Drive cross-functional teams to perform supplier capacity and capability assessments.
- Improve On Time Delivery and First Pass Yield with critical and/or challenged suppliers of optical components, precision optics, coatings, and optical assemblies.
- Act as an escalation point for Production Buyers and manage critical supplier recovery schedules.
- Track performance across the optics supply base, including spend, supply markets, costs, capacity, and supplier tiers.
- Conduct and evaluate optics industry competitive intelligence, market reports, and supplier capabilities.
- Monitor emerging optical technologies, materials, manufacturing processes, coatings, and component trends.
- Support the development of business cases for optical components, manufacturing capabilities, and sourcing strategies.
- Track supplier performance, cost reductions, quality improvements, and overall supply chain savings.
- Manage business reviews with optics suppliers to align market trends, performance, quality, capabilities, cost, and future needs with organizational objectives.
Requirements
- Excellent communication and negotiating skills.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities.
- Initiative to investigate problems, develop solutions, and obtain results.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver results in a manufacturing environment.
- Solid understanding of ERP/MRP and production planning principles.
- Ability to travel to global locations (expected travel about 10-20%).

Experience Level
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in either Fabricated metal parts, Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS), Optical assembly or Systems / Sub-systems integration.
Education Level
- Bachelor or Master degree in Business Administration, Engineering or Finance from a four-year College or University.
- PMP and/or CSCP designation is considered an asset.
- Working knowledge of export controls and Offsets is considered an asset.
Salary/Compensations
- $110,000 to $130,000
