About the Role

Aru Labs is seeking a Director of Photography (DOP) / Cinematographer for an independent web-series project. This role involves shaping the visual identity of the series from its inception and collaborating closely with the Director throughout pre-production and production.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the visual language and cinematography approach for the series
  • Work closely with the Director on the visual storytelling
  • Plan camera, lenses, lighting and equipment requirements
  • Recommend and help build the camera and lighting team
  • Participate in location and technical planning
  • Lead cinematography during production
  • Work with the 1st AD and production team to plan practical shooting setups
  • Help conduct a short test shoot before principal photography
  • Maintain visual consistency across episodes and locations
  • Collaborate with the Director to create a cinematic but authentic visual style

Requirements

  • Strong cinematography portfolio or showreel
  • Good understanding of camera systems, lenses, lighting and composition
  • Strong visual storytelling instincts
  • Comfortable working with a lean, independent production team
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a first-time Director
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in films, web series, short films, music videos, commercials or digital storytelling is welcome
  • Ability to build something from the ground up
