About the Role

The Maintenance Worker is responsible for keeping the grounds, equipment, and buildings maintained in a neat, clean, and operable condition, as directed by the Facilities Director. This role emphasizes safety, respect, integrity, excellence, and stewardship in all interactions and tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Carries out ground maintenance including mowing lawns, snow removal, landscaping, and building maintenance such as painting, cleaning, and general repairs.
  • Performs general carpentry, plumbing, heating/AC, electrical, and appliance repair.
  • Assists in coordinating new projects throughout the organization.
  • Responsible for monthly fire extinguisher inspections.
  • Checks boilers daily and performs annual boiler inspections.
  • Inspects and diagnoses problems, planning work in coordination with the Facilities Director.
  • Keeps a record of all maintenance and repair work done on campus.
  • Attends training as required or requested.
  • Able to respond to change productively.
  • Cleans workspaces, common areas, offices, hallways, and bathrooms according to New York State hygiene standards, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, and sanitizing.
  • Ensures waste and recycling receptacles are emptied.
  • Restocks paper and cleaning products in common areas as needed.
  • Responds productively to Agency needs related to custodial work.
  • Reports all maintenance issues through the “Maintenance Ticket System” in a timely manner.
  • Maintains inventory of cleaning products and requests restocking.
  • Ensures cleaning equipment is used properly, kept in good working condition, and stored safely.

Requirements

  • Must maintain the privacy and confidentiality of protected and sensitive information.
  • Successful completion of all pre-employment requirements and ongoing clearances as required by New York State regulatory agencies.
  • A valid New York State driver's license is required.
  • Completion of required agency trainings following hire.

  • Strong understanding of cleaning practices, sanitation standards, and the proper use of custodial tools, chemicals, and equipment.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Able to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to collaborate respectfully and professionally with diverse staff, clients, and visitors.
  • Maintains discretion when encountering sensitive information.
  • Clear and courteous communication skills.
  • Ability to follow written instructions.
  • Ability to document supply needs and report maintenance concerns.
  • Reliability, sound judgment, and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Ability to recognize hazards, adapt to changing needs, and respond appropriately in routine and urgent situations.
