About the Role
The Physiotherapist assesses, diagnoses, and treats patients in a tertiary care setting with impairments, pain, functional limitations, or disabilities. This role involves developing holistic treatment programs, educating patients and families, and collaborating with other health disciplines. The position also includes supervising physiotherapy students and assistants.
Responsibilities
- Assess, diagnose, and treat patients with impairments, pain, functional limitations, or disabilities.
- Develop and implement holistic treatment programs using various therapeutic techniques.
- Educate patients, families, caregivers, and the general public on health promotion and physiotherapy treatment.
- Communicate with other health disciplines regarding patient management.
- Supervise and evaluate physiotherapy students.
- Supervise physiotherapy assistants and aides.
- Collaborate with colleagues to determine team goals and objectives.
- Participate in the evaluation of team effectiveness.
- Solve problems and share responsibilities within the clinical team.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or entry-level master's program in Physiotherapy from an accredited university.
- Membership with the Nova Scotia Regulator of Physiotherapy.
- Computer skills (statistics input, word processing, Outlook).
- Annual Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation certification (BCLS).
- WHMIS training and certification.
- Additional courses/education/training in specialized areas (e.g., cardio-respiratory techniques, acupuncture, stroke rehabilitation, manual therapy, balance training) are an asset.
- Competencies in other languages are an asset, French preferred.
