About the Role
The Pharmacy Site Operations Leader is responsible for the leadership and oversight of inpatient pharmacy operations across assigned sites. The role supports the delivery of safe, effective, and efficient pharmacy services through operational management, staff supervision, quality improvement, and project implementation. The Operations Leader collaborates with interprofessional partners, represents Pharmacy on organizational committees, and advances initiatives that enhance patient care and service excellence while exemplifying UHN’s values of caring, excellence, teamwork, innovation, integrity, leadership, and respect.
Responsibilities
- Support the Hospital Pharmacy Operations Manager in all aspects of pharmacy operations across assigned sites.
- Lead and oversee day-to-day pharmacy operations, including staffing, scheduling, workflow optimization, operational planning, and resolution of service disruptions.
- Provide direct and functional supervision of staff, including human resources management, performance support, training, and development.
- Serve as the Non-Sterile Compounding Supervisor, providing annual training, competency assessment, and certification of staff.
- Lead the implementation of operational, automation, and systems-related pharmacy projects and initiatives.
- Maintain and support pharmacy policies, procedures, and regulatory compliance requirements, with expertise in pharmacy automation, sterile compounding, and non-sterile compounding practices.
- Drive continuous quality improvement initiatives to optimize the safety, quality, efficiency, and delivery of medication distribution and pharmacy services.
- Collaborate with pharmacy leadership, clinical teams, nursing leaders, and other departments to support operational objectives and organizational priorities.
- Support the implementation of quality, safety, risk management, and compliance initiatives across pharmacy operations.
Requirements
- Completion of an advanced degree (Master’s or equivalent) or Doctor of Pharmacy degree required.
- Certificate of competency from the Pharmacy Examination Board of Canada required.
- Active registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists as a Pharmacist, Part A required.
- At minimum over 2-3 years practical and related supervisory, management, or leadership experience required.
- Pharmacy practice in a hospital setting with up-to-date knowledge of pharmacy operations required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Ability to manage workload with frequent changes.
- Ability to plan and coordinate various assignments and projects.
- Professional Society Membership relevant to Hospital Pharmacy (e.g. CSHP) an asset.
- Pharmacy Residency an asset.
