About the Role
As a Senior Server Developer at Snowprint, you’ll work on the backend systems that power Warhammer 40,000: Tacticus. You’ll build new features, improve existing systems, and take ownership of parts of the infrastructure that keep the game running. You’ll join a small, experienced backend team where you’ll have a high level of responsibility and autonomy. The role requires adaptability, decision-making, and the ability to keep moving in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly.
Responsibilities
- Develop backend features for Tacticus and take ownership of backend systems from planning to live operations.
- Improve and evolve existing systems to support a growing live game.
- Own and improve the cloud environment, working with AWS and infrastructure-as-code.
- Build, maintain, and evolve systems running the game.
- Collaborate with security and compliance specialists.
- Ensure development and live environments run smoothly.
- Collaborate with developers, designers, and other disciplines to shape technical solutions.
- Solve problems as they arise.
- Participate in playtests.
- Investigate issues in development and live environments.
- Participate in on-call work.
- Adapt to changing priorities and move between feature development, infrastructure, and troubleshooting.
Requirements
- Experienced backend developer with a strong professional background in building and operating live services.
- Experience from gaming, particularly from live games or LiveOps environments, is highly relevant.
- Fluent in Java and/or Kotlin.
- Comfortable designing and building robust backend systems.
- Experience working in an environment with changing requirements, where quick decisions and system evolution are necessary.
- Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS.
- Comfortable owning and maintaining cloud environments using infrastructure-as-code.
- Comfortable with the realities of live development, including troubleshooting production issues and participating in on-call work.
- Ability to balance immediate problems with longer-term improvements.
- Self-directed and collaborative.
- Clear communication skills, able to explain technical decisions.
- Comfortable working with people from different disciplines.
- Enjoy learning, solving new problems, and improving systems and team processes.
