About the Role

The Co-Responding Counselor role, in partnership with law enforcement, addresses community crises by providing skilled professionals to assist individuals experiencing mental health challenges, domestic violence, substance abuse, or other crises. This approach ensures effective management of situations and connects individuals with necessary resources for stability.

Responsibilities

  • Respond alongside law enforcement to calls involving mental health crises, domestic violence, substance abuse, and other non-criminal matters.
  • Use de-escalation and assessment skills to manage crisis situations, reduce risk, and stabilize individuals in distress.
  • Conduct evaluations in the field to determine individuals' needs and recommend appropriate interventions.
  • Connect individuals and families to long-term support and community-based resources.
  • Provide ongoing case management to ensure successful engagement with referred resources.
  • Collaborate with officers, social service agencies, and community organizations to develop crisis management strategies.
  • Maintain accurate records of interactions, assessments, and follow-up activities.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree preferred, preferably in counseling or social work.
  • Crisis Intervention Experience recommended.
  • Requirement to obtain and maintain CJIS clearance.
  • Use of a reliable car is necessary for travel to service sites.
