About the Role

Texas Oncology/Texas Breast Specialists is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to join their Breast Surgery team. This full-time position supports the Austin Midtown location, with Friday coverage in Bastrop. The role offers a Monday-Friday schedule with no weekends or major holidays. The position can be a level 1, 2, or Sr, depending on the candidate's experience. This role provides an opportunity to collaborate with breast surgeons and staff, delivering exceptional patient care for individuals with breast diseases in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms.
  • Records patient data, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Obtains necessary patient records prior to treatment or procedures.
  • Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies.
  • Assists physicians with exams and procedures.
  • Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as delegated.
  • Maintains exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
  • Answers patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
  • Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as directed.
  • Informs physician of patient reschedules and no-shows.
  • Performs administrative duties such as typing, filing, faxing, chart preparation, and reception.
  • May enter orders under provider direction and supervision.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants preferred.
  • 0-3 years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant (Level 1).
  • Minimum three years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant (Level 2).
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred (Level 2).
  • Minimum five years experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant in a hospital or clinic setting (Level Sr).
  • Current CPR certification required (Level Sr).
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Skills

  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred.
  • Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire.
  • Current CPR certification required.
