Responsibilities

  • Restore or improve physical abilities, promote behavioral changes, adapt surroundings, and teach new skills for optimal daily functioning.
  • Provide evaluation and treatment in acute care, nursing home, short-term rehabilitation, and/or outpatient settings.
  • Oversee services provided by Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants and aides.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary care team.
  • Assist in quality improvement and new programming initiative development.
  • Maintain licensure by obtaining required CEUs as determined by NYS Practice Act.
  • Adhere to professional standards, policies, procedures, federal, state, local, and Joint Commission (TJC) standards.
  • Perform comprehensive physical, psychosocial, and safety assessments, identifying functional problems requiring occupational therapy intervention.
  • Understand and carry out prescribed therapy services as requested by physicians and/or mid-level providers.
  • Develop a plan of care to promote optimum function and safety.
  • Complete all required paperwork documentation following treatment and procedures, ensuring documentation reflects care provided and outcomes achieved.
  • Evaluate and treat the assigned number of patients per day, determining the need for follow-up visits.
  • Maintain current knowledge and awareness of insurance regulations related to therapy services.
  • Act fiscally responsible in the use and request of supplies and in submitting patient charges.
  • Coordinate patient care with other clinical team members.
  • Maintain and enhance personal and professional knowledge, and promote professional standards in occupational therapy.
  • Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and employees.
  • Promote effective working relations and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university.
  • NYS License to practice OT, or a valid temporary permit as per NYSED licensing requirements.
  • BLS CPR - within 6 months of date of hire.
  • Excellent motor, hand, eye coordination and manual dexterity.
  • Ability to handle and operate therapy equipment, including safe patient handling equipment, exercise machines, and/or modalities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Power Point, is preferred.
  • Medium Work physical requirements: Exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
  • Occasional physical requirements: balancing, climbing, crouching, lifting, pulling, pushing, stooping, fit testing.
  • Frequent physical requirements: typing/ clerical/ dexterity, grasping, kneeling, reaching, repetitive motion, seeing/ monitor/ computer use, standing, talking, visual acuity (color, depth, perception), walking.
  • Constant physical requirements: hearing.
  • Occasional hazards: bodily fluids/ bloodborne exposure.
  • Occasional working conditions: extreme temperatures.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
