Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete classroom training and clinical studies to pass the NYS Nurse Aide Training test and become a Certified Nurse Aide.
  • Support the philosophy and objectives of the Nursing Home and Nursing Department.
  • Provide care to residents under the supervision of the NATP Coordinator/Clinical Supervisor.
  • Assist in the maintenance of care standards.
  • Carry out assigned tasks for resident admissions and provide care as directed.
  • Contribute to resident teaching by performing instructed procedures and observing new procedures.
  • Recognize and report changes in resident condition to the charge nurse.
  • Acknowledge resident requests and provide service or relay the request to appropriate staff.
  • Discuss performance issues concerning nursing care with the charge nurse.
  • Treat residents and co-workers with dignity and respect.
  • Participate in assigned In-service programs, resident care conferences, and staff meetings.
  • Assist in maintaining an environment conducive to quality care.
  • Assist in observing the effectiveness of care as assigned.
  • Assist in maintaining a system for communication of nursing information for each resident.
  • Participate in nursing reports and daily conferences by reporting nursing care data to the nurse in charge.
  • Use the Comprehensive Care Plan in carrying out assignments.
  • Follow written assignments to provide continuity of care.
  • Understand the functions of other persons involved in resident care.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information.
  • Document on the Daily Care Assessment, treatment sheet, weight and vital signs sheets, and report Intake and Output information.
  • Foster cooperative effort among staff members in all departments.
  • Transport residents to other departments and nursing units as needed.
  • Respect individuals for their abilities, knowledge, and skills.
  • Utilize opportunities to promote better understanding of working relationships.
  • Support Personnel policies.
  • Recommend changes to the nurse in charge.
  • Assume responsibility to keep self informed.
  • Report personnel problems to the charge nurse.
  • Support new Nursing Home programs and policies.
  • Attend at least 6 hours of compensated in-service education every six months.
  • May be required to work on other shifts and units.
  • May be required to perform other related duties.
  • Follow established Infection Control procedures.
  • Attend all required in-services and follow all department and facility policies and procedures, including PPE use.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident care and employee information, and follow HIPAA and HIV regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred
  • Minimum 1 year previous long term care experience
  • Medium work - Exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects
  • Occasional balancing, crouching, typing/clerical/dexterity, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, stooping, seeing/monitor/computer use, fit testing
  • Frequent grasping, hearing, repetitive motion, standing, talking, walking, visual acuity (color, depth, perception)
  • Occasional exposure to bodily fluids/bloodborne pathogens and chemicals
  • Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, and odors
  • No travel required
