About the Role

Join Texas Oncology as a Medical Assistant and make a meaningful impact in patients' lives. This role offers a supportive, team-driven environment where you can build strong patient relationships, gain hands-on experience, and grow professionally. The position supports the South Austin location and operates Monday-Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, with no weekends, call, or major holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms.
  • Record patient data, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Obtain necessary patient records prior to treatment or procedures.
  • Prepare and stock exam/treatment rooms and order supplies.
  • Assist physicians with exams and procedures.
  • Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as delegated.
  • Maintain exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
  • Answer patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
  • Phone in prescriptions and make other patient calls as directed.
  • Inform physician of patient reschedules and no-shows.
  • Perform administrative duties such as typing, filing, faxing, chart preparation, and reception.
  • Enter orders under a provider’s direction and supervision.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Current BCLS certification required within 3 months of hire (Level 1).
  • Current CPR certification required (Level Sr).
  • Ability to escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms.
  • Ability to record patient data, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
  • Ability to obtain necessary patient records prior to treatment or procedures.
  • Ability to prepare and stock exam/treatment rooms and order supplies.
  • Ability to assist physicians with exams and procedures.
  • Ability to administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as delegated.
  • Ability to maintain exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
  • Ability to answer patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
  • Ability to phone in prescriptions and make other patient calls as directed.

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
