About the Role

Diagnose the presence and stage of diseases using laboratory techniques and patient specimens, studying the nature, cause, and development of diseases, and structural and functional changes caused by them.

Responsibilities

  • Examines and interprets prepared tissue sections and body fluids and secretions using various microscopy techniques.
  • Diagnoses the presence and stage of disease or abnormalities from specimens.
  • Identifies the etiology, pathogenesis, morphological change, and clinical significance of diseases.
  • Consults with referring physicians regarding test ordering and interpretation.
  • Provides diagnostic information to physicians via written pathology reports.
  • Participates in proficiency testing and meetings to ensure diagnostic accuracy and quality of care.
  • Engages in professional organizations, conferences, and seminars to stay updated on pathology developments.
  • Performs gross examination, dissection, and description of specimens.
  • Trains and educates laboratory personnel, students, and residents.
  • Takes photographs of specimens for reports or archival purposes.
  • Consults with peers on complex cases.
  • Teaches residents on a rotating basis.
  • Plans and supervises the work of pathology staff, residents, or visiting pathologists.
  • Testifies in depositions or trials as an expert witness.
  • Performs autopsies.
  • Performs on-call responsibilities.
  • Completes annual training programs and attends staff meetings.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality.
  • Complies with all State, Federal, professional regulations, and company/departmental policies.
  • Adheres to CAP, CLIA, State Regulations, HIPAA, Safety, and OSHA Regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be a doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathy.
  • Must possess an unlimited and unrestricted license to practice medicine or osteopathy in the laboratory's state and applicable receiving states, or be eligible to obtain licensure.
  • For surgical pathology, completion of an approved four-year residency in anatomic and/or clinical pathology is required.
  • For surgical pathology, completion of a two-year surgical medical fellowship is required.
  • For surgical pathology, must be certified in anatomic or clinical pathology, or both, by the American Board of Pathology or American Osteopathic Board of Pathology, or possess equivalent qualifications.
  • Minimum of one year of pathology experience.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment visual color discrimination test.
  • Complies with Board of Medicine on annual continuing medical education requirements.
  • Gain/Maintain appropriate medical staff membership and privileges at applicable medical facilities.

Salary/Compensations

  • $300K to $400K
  • Pay is commensurate with experience and subspecialty training
  • Geographic differentials to the pay range may apply
  • Sonic Healthcare USA reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range
