About the Role
As an integral member of the Pharmacy Services Outpatient Pharmacy Operations team, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting pharmacists in prescription dispensing, preparing extemporaneous products, managing inventory, and operating blister packaging automation.
Responsibilities
- Working in conjunction with pharmacists in maintaining high standards of client relations
- Assisting pharmacists in accurately and efficiently performing all technical aspects relating to prescription dispensing responsibilities
- Preparing or compounding extemporaneous products using appropriate techniques under supervision of a pharmacist
- Performing activities relating to the maintenance and operation of Outpatient Pharmacy services
- Handling inventory and supplies and managing operations of blister packaging automation
- Performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required
Requirements
- Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program at an accredited college or recognized equivalent required
- Registration as a Pharmacy Technician (Part A) in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists required
- Ability to work under minimal supervision and to manage competing priorities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under minimal supervision and to manage competing priorities/deadlines
- Two years practical and related experience preferred
- Previous hospital experience with unit dose system and intravenous admixture service, preferred
- Ability to learn and troubleshoot changing technologies/machinery (e.g. automated blister packaging machine)
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work variable shifts
- Certificate of competency from the Pharmacy Examination Board of Canada, preferred
- Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team preferred
- Manual billings, out of province billings and specialty medications related billing preferred
- Experience/working knowledge of Delta (Health Watch), Kroll and Point of Sales System preferred
- IV Compounding experience an asset
- Current UHN employees must have successfully completed their probationary period, have a good employee record along with satisfactory attendance in accordance with UHN's attendance management program, to be eligible for consideration.
