About the Role
This Medical Assistant Apprentice position includes training to grow into a Medical Assistant. Under close supervision, you will be trained to support provider practice by assisting with direct patient care duties, including patient call backs and refill requests. You may also learn to perform diagnostic testing, maintain supply inventory levels, and clean and maintain medical equipment, all while ensuring compliance and confidentiality.
Responsibilities
- Complete all assigned online coursework in a timely manner.
- Complete online coursework at the 290 Administration building.
- Travel to various ARC clinics for clinical rotations/training.
- Participate in classes held at the 290 Administration building.
- Room patients, take and document vital signs, and prepare patients for provider exam.
- Perform diagnostic testing such as EKGs, audiograms, typanograms, spirometry, and visual screenings.
- Ensure rooms are properly stocked and supplies are current and within expiration dates.
- Clean patient rooms as needed, including proper handling of dirty laundry.
- Follow directions given by nursing team leader or supervisor.
- Provide patients with educational materials as directed.
- Follow clinic protocols.
- Administer medication under physician’s direction and within the scope of practice.
- Review Epic Inbaskets (Medication Refill Requests, Result Notes, Triage Calls) under preceptor guidance.
- Adhere to all company policies, including OSHA, HIPAA, compliance and Code of Conduct.
- Maintain regular and dependable attendance.
- Follow the core competencies set forth by the Company.
- Work holiday shift(s) as required.
- Call patients and inform of normal lab results.
- Maintain equipment (autoclaves, sterilizes, washes speculums, checks expiration dates, etc).
- Post patient test results through patient’s mychart portal.
- Assist providers with procedures by setting up equipment, assisting with patient preparation, and cleaning and storing equipment after exam.
- Obtain applicable consents and complete all necessary documentation in EPIC EMR.
- Perform other duties within the scope of unlicensed personnel as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must obtain and maintain an AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card during the program.
