About the Role
General Practice Assistants (GPAs) provide administrative and basic clinical support within primary care. They help free up GP time, improve patient experience, and ensure the smooth running of appointments.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and respond to emails in the NHS Email account.
- Sort and prioritize clinical post for GPs, signposting where appropriate.
- Extract information from clinical letters for coding into patient notes.
- Arrange patient appointments, referrals, and follow-up appointments.
- Prepare patients for GP appointments by taking brief histories and basic readings.
- Perform urine dips, take blood pressure, ECGs, and phlebotomy.
- Complete basic forms for GP approval, such as insurance, mortgage, and benefits agency forms.
- Explain treatment procedures to patients.
- Liaise with outside agencies to assist GPs.
- Support GPs with immunizations and wound care.
Requirements
- Prior experience working in a receptionist or administrative role in a GP surgery.
- Experience working with the general public.
- Experience with administrative duties.
- Experience working in a healthcare setting.
