About the Role

The role focuses on the development and integration of electronic hardware, control electronics, and system-wide solutions for complex special machines and automated production systems. While PLC software development is handled by a specialized team, this position plays a key role in hardware-oriented automation technology, electronic system development, machine safety, and commissioning. You will collaborate closely with colleagues from PLC software, software development, and mechanical engineering throughout the entire product lifecycle, from concept to industrialization.

Responsibilities

  • Development of automation concepts, electronic architectures, and system designs for special machines and automated production systems.
  • Development of electronic assemblies and hardware solutions for machine control, sensor technology, inspection, and measurement technology.
  • Design, review, and optimization of electronic circuits and printed circuit boards (PCBs) for industrial applications.
  • Specification, validation, and integration of electronic components, sensors, actuators, drive systems, robots, and laser systems.
  • Specification and integration of PLC-based control systems (ideally Beckhoff / TwinCAT) in collaboration with the PLC software team.
  • Design and dimensioning of electrical power distribution and compressed air and vacuum supply systems.
  • Conducting machine safety analyses and risk assessments according to the Machinery Directive and CE conformity requirements.
  • Support with EMC-compliant hardware design and with test, verification, and validation activities.
  • Commissioning and validation of machines in-house and at customer sites domestically and abroad together with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Performing failure analyses, troubleshooting, and system-wide optimizations on new and existing machines.
  • Application and integration of industrial communication systems (e.g., EtherCAT, Profinet).
  • Development of quality inspection and measurement solutions using modern sensor technologies.
  • Transfer of developed systems into series-ready machines and production processes.
  • Documentation of development, commissioning, validation, and test results according to quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Close collaboration with the departments of design, robotics, optomechanics, software development, and project management.
  • Technical support for production areas in failure analyses and troubleshooting.

Requirements

  • Completed degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Automation Technology, Mechatronics, or a comparable field.
  • Experience in the development of electronic hardware, ideally in the field of automation technology, special machine construction, production facilities, or plant engineering.
  • Experience in the development of electronic assemblies and in PCB design.
  • Knowledge of analog and digital circuit technology.
  • Experience in validation, testing, and failure analysis of electronic hardware.
  • Practical knowledge of PLC-controlled machines and automation architectures; independent PLC software development is not the focus of the role.
  • Knowledge of drive technology, industrial automation, sensor technology, and industrial communication systems.
  • Experience with machine safety, risk assessments, and CE conformity.
  • Experience with electronic and simulation tools such as Altium Designer, LTSpice, OrCAD, KiCad, or comparable tools is an advantage.
  • Experience with electrotechnical development tools such as EPLAN is desirable.
  • Structured, analytical, and independent way of working with a hands-on mentality.
  • Quick comprehension and the ability to familiarize yourself with new technologies and fields of activity.
  • Very good German language skills in spoken and written are required; English skills are an advantage.
