About the Role
This role involves providing comprehensive cardiology care within a collaborative cardiovascular program, serving a complex patient population across inpatient and outpatient settings. The APP will work closely with cardiologists and other advanced practice providers, participating in consultative services, rounding, and outpatient care. The position offers the resources of a large integrated health system within a collegial, community-based practice environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the disease process as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Provide optimal patient care, from diagnostic to prognostic matters, in inpatient, ambulatory, or outpatient settings.
- Collaborate with attending supervising/collaborating physician(s) in accordance with state law and hospital regulations, hospital policy, protocols, and clinical pathways.
- Obtain medical histories and perform physical examinations.
- Review and order diagnostic/therapeutic tests and radiologic results.
- Formulate and manage patient treatment plans.
- Perform procedures and prescribe treatment and medications in accordance with institutional and state guidelines.
- Function as first or second assistant on operative cases, if within scope and educational prerequisites are met.
- Respond to emergency situations within YNHHS parameters.
- Educate patients/families on care and recommended or available resources.
- Provide psychosocial support to patients, their family members, and significant others.
- Ensure appropriate documentation in accordance with hospital and regulatory requirements.
- Protect information from unauthorized access, modification, destruction, or disclosure.
- Demonstrate a high standard of moral and ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient care.
- Ensure compliance with patient-related healthcare regulatory requirements, standards, and recommendations.
- Continuously engage in projects that maintain and advance professional competency.
- Serve as a clinical resource for new house staff and provide service-specific orientation.
- Report safety events and near misses.
- Maintain all employee requirements determined by hospital policy.
- Serve as a clinical preceptor for NP/PA students and other healthcare professionals.
- Serve as a mentor to pre-PA/NP candidates.
- Collaborate on research, quality assurance, and performance improvement projects.
- Assist with the formation of protocols for clinical practice or to further educational and clinical expertise.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
- APRNs, PAs, CRNAs, and CNMs must be appointed to the Affiliated Medical Staff of a YNHHS hospital and go through the Medical Staff credentialing process.
- Provide evidence of current competence to practice as an APRN, PA, CRNA, or CNM.
- Obtain appropriate reference letters from physicians and other practitioners during the Medical Staff appointment process.

- Cardiology experience
- Inpatient and outpatient cardiology experience
- Cardiac ICU, CVICU, CCU, telemetry, or cardiovascular nursing experience
- Managing patients with complex cardiovascular conditions
- Consultative cardiology experience

Experience Level
- Experienced or newly graduated
- Clinical working experience as an NP/PA in the specialty/service line is preferred but not required
- New graduates with significant cardiovascular clinical experience are strongly encouraged to apply
- Registered nurses transitioning to advanced practice roles with substantial cardiology experience are encouraged to apply
Education Level
- Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or an accredited Physician Assistant Program.
