About the Role

The Housekeeping Manager is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and executing all activities and personnel within the housekeeping and laundry departments, ensuring professional standards and exceptional service delivery. This role focuses on developing and maintaining a motivated and empowered staff through effective leadership, training, coaching, and feedback.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect work performed to ensure it meets specifications and established standards.
  • Plan and prepare employee work schedules.
  • Perform or assist with cleaning duties as necessary.
  • Investigate complaints about service and equipment, and take corrective action.
  • Coordinate activities with other departments to ensure efficient and timely service provision.
  • Check equipment to ensure it is in working order.
  • Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities to determine required work.
  • Select appropriate cleaning materials for various items and surfaces.
  • Instruct staff on work policies, procedures, and equipment usage and maintenance.
  • Order and purchase equipment and supplies, and issue them to workers.
  • Forecast staffing and stock levels for effective scheduling and ordering.
  • Evaluate employee performance and recommend personnel actions.
  • Confer with staff to resolve performance and personnel issues and discuss company policies.
  • Establish and implement operational standards and procedures for the department.
  • Recommend or arrange for additional services such as painting, repairs, renovations, and furnishing/equipment replacement.
  • Select and order or purchase new equipment, supplies, and furnishings.
  • Recommend changes to improve service and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain records of work hours, budgets, payroll, and other information.
  • Screen job applicants and hire new employees.
  • Supervise in-house services such as laundries, dry cleaning, and/or valet services.
  • Advise the front office of rooms ready for occupancy.
  • Perform financial tasks such as estimating costs and preparing/managing budgets.
  • Prepare activity and personnel reports, including occupancy, hours worked, facility usage, work performed, and departmental expenses.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): or Work Equivalent.
  • 2-3 plus years of experience in Housekeeping Management preferred.
  • Basic computer skills needed.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Experience with hotel information systems preferred.
