About the Role
The Machine Learning Platform team builds foundational tools for data scientists, aiming to reduce the time it takes to move models from idea to production. This role directly addresses the bottleneck in the ML lifecycle, impacting fraud detection, lending decisions, and other critical models. You will join a team focused on creating reliable and self-service infrastructure that supports nearly every model SumUp runs.
Responsibilities
- Design and build ML platform tooling for feature engineering, training, experimentation, monitoring, and serving.
- Simplify feature creation for data scientists by reducing reliance on complex Spark workflows.
- Standardize ML infrastructure and developer experience by replacing fragmented solutions with scalable, self-service components.
- Partner with data scientists to understand workflows and pain points, translating them into platform improvements.
- Mentor data scientists on best practices and drive platform adoption.
- Collaborate with Data Platform teams to align ML initiatives with data engineering work.
Requirements
- More than 6 years of experience building production-grade ML infrastructure (feature stores, training/orchestration frameworks, experimentation platforms, model serving/monitoring systems).
- Strong proficiency in Python and ML libraries.
- Experience with ML orchestration tools (e.g., Metaflow).
- Familiarity with platform tooling (e.g., MLflow, Kubeflow, Tecton, Chronon, Airflow).
- Solid understanding of batch and real-time data processing patterns (e.g., Spark, Flink, Kafka).
- Comfort working with AWS cloud-native services and infrastructure tooling (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform).
- Track record of partnering with stakeholders to turn workflow pain points into reusable, self-service platform capabilities.
