About the Role
Ensure production requirements are met and maintain a stable, safe, and healthy work environment. This role manages staff, minimizes wasted capacity and overtime, oversees onsite equipment, and achieves production goals.
Responsibilities
- Supervise onsite drivers.
- Maintain a safe, injury-free, and accident-free workplace, compliant with OSHA standards.
- Enforce correct procedures for loading, unloading, and tipping.
- Manage staff levels and weekly hours to minimize overtime and capacity.
- Monitor, evaluate, coach, and document employee performance, providing corrective action and feedback in partnership with management.
- Track daily equipment usage and ensure driver DVIR compliance.
- Submit daily yard checks to dispatch, terminal management, and maintenance.
- Work alongside crews during freight operations as a working supervisor.
- Inspect OTR trucks for cleanliness and organization, reporting findings to management.
- Coordinate with maintenance and external vendors for equipment service.
- Support safety initiatives collaboratively with the Safety Director and/or Safety Team.
- Ensure employee adherence to PPE, FMCSA, DOT, customer, and safety requirements.
- Determine training needs and schedule training for all onsite employees.
- Perform FMCSA required Pre- & Post Trip Inspections and audit equipment onsite.
- Safely refuel vehicles as necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of trucks, yard, and office.
- Be available for operational communications with management and crew outside normal work hours when business needs require.
- Serve as the primary communication link between customer plants, dispatch/terminal managers, and drivers.
- Communicate plant outages, breakdowns, delays, and other service-impacting issues.
- Maintain and manage sufficient inventory to support customer operations.
- Conduct and document yard inspections at least twice daily.
Requirements
- High School Diploma required.
- Valid Class A CDL.
- Proficiency at driving, maneuvering, and positioning CMV in various loading, unloading, and parking scenarios.
- Successful completion of FMCSA physical requirements for CMV drivers.
- Successful completion of pre-employment background check and drug testing, including adherence to FMCSA drug and alcohol testing requirements.
- 3 years Equipment Operator Experience.
- Ability to learn and utilize software.
- Written and spoken communication skills.
- Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Confidence to thrive under pressure and strong leadership skills.
- Professional demeanor and attitude.
- Employees must take reasonable care of their health and safety, understand and follow company policies, and report unsafe conditions.
- Ability to lift, push, pull up to 75lbs.
- Ability to travel to the site and off-site locations as required.
- Must wear safety equipment, e.g., steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles.
- Willingness to work within varying weather conditions (cold/heat).
- Must maintain the confidentiality of all company and customer information.
- Tact and discretion must be used in all dealings with customers.
