About the Role
You provide security, remain calm in challenging situations, and support children in finding their own way. We are looking for an empathetic and reliable school companion for a 6th-grade student with Autism, ADHD, and high intellectual giftedness in Berlin-Schöneberg.
Responsibilities
- Support with daily structure, material organization, and task initiation/completion.
- Recognize signs of sensory overload and emotional overwhelm early and assist with appropriate breaks and regulation strategies.
- Accompany transitions between rooms, during breaks, sports, and excursions.
- Assist in navigating social situations, encourage interaction, and help de-escalate conflicts.
- Facilitate re-entry into lessons after challenging situations.
- Remind about meals and drinks as needed and consider individual movement needs.
- Promote independence and adapt support to the student's current needs.
- Support the transition to secondary school and coordinate with the school, family, and our specialist coordination.
Requirements
- A calm, patient, and appreciative demeanor with a joy for working with children.
- Practical experience with Autism and ADHD is preferred; knowledge of working with gifted children is welcome.
- A good sense for overwhelm, sensory sensitivity, and individual needs.
- The ability to provide clear guidance while allowing space for independent decisions.
- Reliability, observational skills, and flexibility to adapt to changing support needs.
- Good German language skills for communication with the student, school, and family.
- Ideally, a pedagogical, social, or comparable qualification or relevant practical experience.
