About the Role
This role involves cleaning and sanitizing ambulances, emergency response vehicles, and related equipment. You will also manage inventory, perform maintenance on specialized equipment, and prepare/restock response bags and vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Cleans and sanitizes ambulances and emergency response vehicles.
- Cleans and sanitizes equipment, response bags, and bins.
- Safely contains and removes bio-hazardous waste and garbage.
- Receives and cleans contaminated uniforms and distributes clean uniforms to paramedics.
- Performs general housekeeping duties within the garage and work site.
- Prepares and restocks response bags, bins, and vehicles.
- Maintains appropriate stock levels and inventories, ensuring equipment is rotated and serviced.
- Performs outbound shipment preparation and inbound shipment receiving inspection, receipt, storage, and warehousing duties.
- Conducts inventory/supply audits for mini-stores.
- Replaces/removes old, expired, or broken packaging in vehicle inventories.
- Maintains, repairs, and tests equipment in a timely manner.
- Conducts routine maintenance on specialized paramedic and ambulance equipment.
- Continuously inspects equipment to ensure it is in good working order and maintained according to schedule.
- Develops and implements preventative maintenance programs for medical equipment.
- Exchanges defective equipment and records replacement transactions.
- Identifies vehicles and equipment scheduled for preventative maintenance and removes/replaces from service.
- Inputs data to maintain database records including inventory movement, equipment inspections, and maintenance.
- Recharges, conditions, and rotates batteries for equipment.
- Operates and fuels vehicles, performs MTO circle checks, and performs minor vehicle maintenance.
- Operates various hand, pneumatic, and power tools.
- Ensures vehicles are connected to shore power supplies when not in operational use.
- Prepares and presents training programs and assists in the preparation and maintenance of training aids for other staff.
- Recommends changes to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and performance.
- Receives, stocks, and distributes products, equipment, and non-controlled medications.
- Performs tasks related to quality assurance and quality control measures.
- Completes reports related to assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Works various 24/7 rotating or fixed shifts in a fast-paced environment under minimum supervision.
- Travels to various work locations.
- Maintains positive working relationships with Paramedic staff.
- Maintains assigned work area and performs work in a safe, efficient, and courteous manner.
- Performs other duties at this wage grade level or lower such as labouring, maintenance, and cleaning activities.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Considerable experience performing a variety of semi-skilled work.
- Experience in the safe operation of hand, pneumatic, and power tools.
- Considerable experience in a warehouse and material handling environment including shipping and receiving.
- Experience conducting routine and preventative maintenance inspections on ambulance or comparable equipment.
- Experience with various motor vehicle evaluation, maintenance, and/or repair of onboard equipment.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Province of Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License.
- Must have or qualify for the City's equipment operating permits and requirements.
- Ability and willingness to work 12-hour shifts on a various 24/7 rotating or fixed shift schedule, including nights, weekends, overtime, and statutory holidays.
- Must be physically capable of performing required duties, including the ability to lift up to 23 kg and work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain any required certifications to conduct duties.
- Ability to attend and successfully complete technical training programs as required.
- Ability to learn to use various technical devices related to the position.
- Must be familiar with requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations or capable of obtaining familiarity.
- Ability to learn, apply, operate, explain, and become certified in the principles and mechanics of oxygen, suction delivery systems, and stretcher repair.
- Exceptional customer service, including the ability to deal courteously with other staff and the public.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently as part of a team under minimal supervision or work independently.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing in relation to job duties.
- Ability to orient new staff on assigned vehicles/equipment.
- Ability to tolerate working around equipment, devices, tools, and vehicles that have been contaminated with blood and body fluids, parasites, pests, micro-organisms, and biohazards.
- With appropriate safety precautions and personal protective equipment, must be able to tolerate dusty, noisy, odorous conditions and heights.
- Ability to maintain fit-testing requirements (N-95 or higher) and wear personal protective equipment for extended periods.
- Ability to read and interpret sketches, flow charts, schedules, and equipment manuals.
- Ability to be detail-oriented with excellent communication and time management skills.
- Ability to multi-task effectively and manage changing priorities.
- Ability to maintain accurate written and electronic records using a computerized program.
- Ability to analyze and report on equipment inventory and maintenance requirements.
