About the Role

Liberty LEADS seeks Fitness Instructors for after school and Saturday programs, focusing on movement, breathing, self-care, and teamwork for middle and high school students. Instructors will teach basic stretching, the importance of physical activity, and adapt curriculum for in-person or online settings.

Responsibilities

  • Create, adapt, and implement fitness programming for groups of 10 students online or up to 25 students in person.
  • Engage students and modify curriculum according to student needs and the medium being used, with assistance from Liberty LEADS advisors.
  • If switching to online classes, ensure reliable Wi-Fi and computers, and keep cameras on at all times to encourage student participation.
  • Manage in-person and remote classrooms using positive behavior management strategies.
  • Meet regularly with the Liberty LEADS Middle School Coordinator for supervision and debriefing.
  • Prepare a presentation with students for the 'end of year' celebration.
  • Provide lesson plans to the supervisor one week in advance for approval.

Requirements

  • NYS Teacher Certification or professional proficiency in content area preferred.
  • Special Education teachers strongly urged to apply.
  • Must possess strong communication skills and knowledge of group development.
  • Experience working with middle school youth and knowledge of child development.
  • Experience teaching classes using Zoom platform preferred.
  • Reliable Wi-Fi and computer access.
