About the Role

Develop your technical capability by working alongside experienced Senior Naval Architects and Subject Matter Experts, receiving mentorship and guidance while contributing to engineering activities within a complex maritime sustainment program. Gain exposure to real-world naval architecture challenges, building skills and confidence while supporting sustainment activities.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Naval Architecture expertise and technical advice under supervision, supporting CLCM engineering activities.
  • Perform activities as directed by the ACSSPO Principal Engineer.
  • Ensure engineering activities comply with approved policy, plans, and processes, adhering to the Engineering Management Plan.
  • Develop tasking statements for design tasks according to the planned schedule.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to develop design solutions and requirements, considering Engineering Change Management, Configuration Management, Systems Safety, and Certification.
  • Review engineering design task deliverables and conduct associated technical Design Reviews.
  • Conduct technical risk assessments within the limits of engineering delegation.
  • Work within and to the requirements of the Navy Seaworthiness framework and the ACSSPO Authorised Engineering Organisation (AEO).
  • Verify new Request for Problem Resolution (RPR) against the approved Requirements baseline, Certification Basis, and Safety Case Report on the PBS.
  • Manage assigned Request for Variations (RFV) to Return to Standard (RTS), Make Permanent, or cancellation before expiry.
  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, calculations, and criteria under general supervision, making minor adaptations and modifications.
  • Perform work involving conventional engineering practice and assessment, potentially including complex features like conflicting design requirements, systems integration, unsuitable materials, and difficult coordination.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Engineering (preferably Naval Architecture).
  • Hold, or be eligible for, membership of a recognised professional body and registration as Chartered Engineer.
  • A minimum of 2 years related experience in Naval Architecture.
  • Must be eligible for ITAR clearance of relevant ship systems.
  • Experience with Requirements Development, Design Review and Acceptance within a regulated technical framework (Desirable).
  • Experience in marine design or maintenance (Desirable).
  • Must hold and maintain an active Baseline Defence Security Clearance.
  • Only candidates holding a Baseline Clearance or above should apply.
