About the Role

Avathon Government is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to maintain the company's financial integrity. This role involves establishing and maintaining accurate financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting policies in line with GAAP, CAS, and FAR. Responsibilities include DCAA compliance, managing indirect submissions, coordinating audits, and fostering strong stakeholder relationships.

Responsibilities

Manage deliverables ensuring compliance with company, GAAP, CAS, and FAR procedures.
Prepare, maintain, develop, and interpret monthly financial statements and supplemental reports for senior management.
Apply advanced accounting principles to perform and oversee tasks including receivables, billing, payroll, accounts payable, contract revenue calculations, fixed assets, general ledger, financial statements, and compliance support.
Support ASC 606 compliance by completing revenue accounting calculations.
Utilize and optimize Deltek Costpoint accounting system for financial activity management.
Support and assist with all audits, including DCAA compliance.
Maintain the company balance sheet, manage cash flow and forecasting, and perform monthly bank reconciliations.
Manage relationships with staff and auditors, responding promptly to requests.
Assist in the development of indirect rate structures, budgets, forecasts, incurred costs submissions, and general ledger.
Serve as a resource for resolving complex organizational issues.
Establish a regular cadence to review AP/AR/Billing/Payroll/Internal Controls.
Conduct research and analysis of billed and unbilled receivables and revenue recognition calculations.
Identify potential improvements to existing practices and procedures and collaborate cross-functionally for change management.
Support the preparation of all federal and state tax returns, extensions, and payments.
Conduct special projects as assigned.
Identify revenue-generating and cost-saving opportunities.

Requirements

US Citizenship Required.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience within the government and defense industry.
Experience in banking transactions.
Proficiency with Deltek Costpoint Accounting.
Proficiency with government accounting requirements.
Proficiency across Microsoft Office Suite with advanced Excel skills.
Strong problem-solving, analysis aptitude, and consultative approach.
Ability to constructively pivot and prioritize based on business needs.
Strong oral and written communication skills required – ability to communicate financial analysis to non-financial audience.
Ability to operate with a high level of discretion.
Strong organization and program management skills.
