About the Role

The Human Resources Generalist will oversee the full-cycle, day-to-day operations of the HR department, including recruiting, onboarding, benefits administration, and compliance with employment laws. This role supports the enforcement of company policies and procedures and performs HR functions of moderate complexity.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and manage employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and leave policies.
  • Conduct regular audits of HR processes and practices to ensure compliance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR databases.
  • Review, track, and document compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments.
  • Recruit, interview, and facilitate the hiring of qualified job applicants; collaborate with department managers to identify required skills and competencies for open roles.
  • Conduct or coordinate background checks and employment eligibility verifications.
  • Facilitate and manage new hire orientation.
  • Utilize the applicant tracking system to manage recruitment activities.
  • Prepare regular reports for management regarding HR functions and initiatives.
  • Perform routine tasks necessary to administer and execute HR programs, including compensation and benefits, leave administration, disciplinary actions, dispute resolution and investigations, performance and talent management, employee recognition and morale, occupational health and safety, and training and development.
  • Respond to employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, escalating complex or sensitive matters to the VP of Human Resources.
  • Participate in disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including FMLA, ADA, and FLSA; recommend policy updates as needed.
  • Stay current with HR trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in the field.
  • Maintain personnel files in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Handle notifications of wage garnishments, liens, and court-ordered wage assignments.
  • Provide clarification and guidance on HR policies and procedures as requested.
  • Assist with short-term disability (STD), long-term disability (LTD), and workers’ compensation (WC) paperwork and processes.
  • Coordinate the employee separation and termination process, including preparation of separation documentation, conducting exit interviews, and managing COBRA notifications and enrollment.
  • Support special projects as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university -OR- Minimum four (4) years of related work experience -OR- Combination of both education and related work experience.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to access and navigate all departments within the organization’s facilities.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
