About the Role
Relay is a digital banking platform designed to empower self-made business owners with financial clarity, confidence, and control. Our Engineering team is central to building innovative banking products, and we are seeking Senior Software Engineer IIs to help define our technical direction and tackle high-impact, ambiguous challenges. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape architecture, elevate engineering standards, and foster future technical leaders.
Responsibilities
- Lead architecture and the highest-risk work across interconnected systems.
- Set practical standards for quality, reliability, security, and maintainability.
- Own ambiguous, cross-team initiatives from problem definition through measurable outcomes.
- Set priorities, resolve dependencies, and keep execution moving for cross-team initiatives.
- Identify important problems before they are assigned.
- Tie technical decisions to customer needs, business priorities, cost, and risk.
- Align teams with different priorities using context, evidence, and sound judgment.
- Create practices, tooling, documentation, and guardrails to improve delivery and operational effectiveness across Engineering.
- Coach engineers and delegate meaningful ownership to develop technical leaders.
Requirements
- Led architecture for complex, interconnected systems and owned high-risk technical decisions.
- Driven cross-team initiatives from ambiguous problems to measurable results.
- Connected technical trade-offs to customer impact, business priorities, cost, and risk.
- Influenced without authority, aligning teams and stakeholders through context and evidence.
- Created standards, tooling, or processes that improved delivery and operations beyond your own team.
- Grown engineers by coaching and delegating ownership, measuring success by leaders developed.
- Thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments and are comfortable navigating ambiguity and change.
- Worked in startups or high-growth tech companies (bonus).
- Experience with JavaScript (TypeScript, React, and Node.js primarily used) (bonus).
- Working knowledge of AWS services (ECS, S3, RDS, Dynamo, Lambda) and continuous deployment pipelines (bonus).
- Experience in fintech, banking, or other regulated environments (bonus).
