About the Role
The Financial Crime team is responsible for managing the company’s Financial Crime policies, procedures, and controls, including risk assessment, AML compliance, business advisory, and managing high-risk customer escalations. This role involves investigating escalations end-to-end, deciding customer relationship outcomes, and submitting disclosures to the NCA when suspicions are established.
Responsibilities
- Investigate 1LOD escalations including transaction monitoring alerts, fraud referrals, adverse media, complex ownership, and PEP reviews.
- Build a defensible evidence picture through transaction analysis, KYC/CDD review, open-source research, and engagement with the escalating team.
- Decide customer outcomes (maintain, offboard, report to NCA) and document the rationale.
- Draft and submit SARs and DAML requests via the SAR Portal, managing consent-regime timelines.
- Sequence offboarding around pending DAML requests, adhering to s.333A POCA 'no tipping off' rules.
- Handle sensitive escalations, including HR referrals, with discretion.
- Maintain audit-ready case records for regulatory and law enforcement scrutiny.
- Feed outcomes and typology trends back to 1LOD.
Requirements
- Hands-on financial crime investigations experience in a regulated UK financial services firm, ideally in a 2nd line or escalations role.
- First-hand experience drafting and submitting SARs and DAML requests to the NCA, including managing consent-regime timelines.
- Strong knowledge of POCA 2002 (ss.330-333A, DAML), the Terrorism Act 2000, MLR 2017, JMLSG, and the FCA Financial Crime Guide.
- Proficiency across typologies including money laundering, fraud, sanctions/PEP, adverse media, and complex ownership.
- Ability to make independent judgements on maintain/offboard/report decisions, defensible in writing and in person.
