About the Role
The Legal Transformation & Operations Manager will shape and deliver a transformation agenda to improve how legal work is managed, delivered, and measured. This role accelerates the Legal function's transformation through AI and technology deployment, smarter processes, knowledge management, and operational insight. The role holder will have autonomy and visibility to make a difference, working with a global legal team and building an enterprise network. They will connect Legal into wider enterprise initiatives and translate ideas into practical solutions.
Responsibilities
- Own and deliver the Legal function’s AI and technology roadmap, focusing on measurable business outcomes, responsible adoption, and sustained usage.
- Act as the Legal function’s lead practitioner to improve the use of Harvey, Microsoft Copilot, and relevant Microsoft 365 tools, identifying and implementing high-value use cases.
- Design, build, test, and refine AI-enabled workflows for legal research, drafting, review, summarisation, knowledge retrieval, matter support, and internal self-service.
- Create reusable prompt libraries, playbooks, guardrails, training materials, and practical guidance for AI use.
- Work directly with users to understand pain points, prototype solutions, gather feedback, and embed improved ways of working.
- Evaluate new legal technology and AI capabilities, develop business cases, and implementation plans.
- Build and sustain a strong network of AI, technology, data, and transformation colleagues across the enterprise.
- Track adoption, value, and lessons learned, using data and user insight to continuously improve the Legal technology portfolio.
- Improve collaboration, document management, search, knowledge access, and reporting through better use of existing enterprise platforms.
- Build or coordinate practical proofs of concept and move successful solutions into repeatable, governed processes.
- Assess the current Legal operating model and create a prioritised, deliverable transformation roadmap.
- Design and implement streamlined legal intake, triage, matter management, and workflow processes.
- Simplify processes and remove unnecessary friction while maintaining appropriate legal, regulatory, and information governance controls.
- Establish operational disciplines that improve consistency, scalability, and stakeholder experience across jurisdictions.
- Create and maintain a practical legal knowledge framework covering precedents, playbooks, templates, guidance, and lessons learned.
- Develop appropriate self-service resources for the business.
- Represent the Legal function in relevant enterprise forums, pilots, and working groups.
- Translate between lawyers, technologists, and business stakeholders, turning complex requirements into workable solutions.
- Develop practical communications, demonstrations, training, and adoption plans that build confidence and change behaviour.
Requirements
- A legal background, with strong experience in legal operations, legal technology, legal transformation, or digital transformation of a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrable experience in implementing technology-enabled change, from problem definition and design through build, testing, rollout, and adoption.
- Hands-on experience using or deploying generative AI, automation, knowledge, or workflow tools in a legal, professional services, or regulated environment.
- Gravitas, judgement, and credibility to build and maintain relationships whilst influencing senior stakeholders, combined with the willingness and capability to undertake detailed delivery work personally.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to translate between legal, technical, and business audiences.
- Strong project and product delivery skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and move effectively between strategy and execution.
- A practical, curious, and outcome-focused mindset, with sound judgement on responsible AI, risk, and governance.
- Practical experience with Harvey, Microsoft Copilot, and relevant Microsoft 365 tools, or comparable platforms.
- Experience supporting a multi-jurisdictional Legal function.
- Experience developing AI use cases, prompt libraries, adoption programmes, and value measures.
- Demonstrable experience establishing knowledge management, matter management, or legal self-service capabilities.
- An established network across enterprise technology, AI, data, innovation, or transformation communities, or a demonstrated ability to build one quickly.
- Relevant work rights.
- Successful applicants must complete background screening before employment.
