About the Role

Under general supervision, this role maintains complex financial records, compiles financial reports, and may exercise supervision over clerical staff. The position requires independent judgment in applying accounting methods and is subject to audit.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises account clerks and related clerical personnel in maintaining departmental accounts and general books.
  • Posts entries to financial books from supporting records and prepares routine statements.
  • Receives and verifies remittances, posts payments, and prepares recapitulations.
  • Audits tax control ledger cards and reconciles with the general ledger.
  • Updates automated financial records.
  • Checks purchase orders and claims for payment correctness and posts appropriation ledgers.
  • Periodically reconciles books with the Comptroller's report.
  • Assists in compiling figures for budget purposes and prepares payrolls.
  • May assist in purchasing supplies, equipment, or services.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.
  • Four (4) years of experience in computing and registering data in financial records, accounts, or journals.
  • College education in any area may be substituted for experience at a rate of 30 credits = 1 year, provided that for each 30 credits earned, at least 3 credits were in accounting.
