About the Role
The Country Head, Australia role is an enterprise position representing State Street in the local market and driving commercial outcomes. This senior market-facing leader will focus on strengthening client relationships, deepening market presence, and enabling collaboration across businesses to accelerate growth, reporting to the Head of Asia Pacific. The position serves as a senior figurehead for State Street in Australia, uniting the local leadership team, reinforcing a “One State Street” mindset, and role-modelling the firm’s culture and values.
Responsibilities
- Act as a senior representative of State Street in the Australian market, focusing on clients, prospects, and strategic partners.
- Operate as the Client Portfolio Lead for the Australian and New Zealand client base.
- Strengthen State Street’s market profile and brand presence through active engagement with clients and external stakeholders.
- Serve as a visible and credible executive sponsor for key client relationships in partnership with business line leaders.
- Identify and drive cross-business commercial opportunities in collaboration with business unit heads.
- Support cohesion and alignment across businesses to deliver integrated client solutions and stronger commercial outcomes.
- Provide a market-level perspective on client needs, competitive dynamics, and growth opportunities.
- Unite the Australia leadership team across business lines and functions to drive alignment, collaboration, and shared ownership of outcomes.
- Act as a cultural role model and champion for State Street values, supporting employee engagement, and fostering a strong “One State Street” culture.
- Support the development of leaders through connection, visibility, and inclusive leadership practices.
- Manage regulatory responsibilities and direct engagement with regulators.
- Act as the senior responsible person for the SSBT Sydney Branch.
- Manage the branch in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Deliver the branch's strategic and business objectives.
- Operate the branch within approved risk appetite.
- Oversee compliance programs.
- Implement risk management and internal control frameworks.
- Ensure legal, regulatory, contractual, and fiduciary obligations are met.
Requirements
- Substantial senior executive leadership experience within a complex, highly regulated financial services organisation.
- Proven ability to operate effectively across multiple business lines, legal entities, corporate functions, and stakeholder groups in a matrixed global environment.
- Strong commercial acumen and broad understanding of the institutional financial services landscape.
- Sustained track record of building trusted relationships with major clients.
- Experience identifying cross-business opportunities, shaping market strategy, and delivering profitable and sustainable growth.
- Established credibility and a strong market profile in Australia.
- Executive presence, judgement, and communication skills to represent State Street with clients, prospects, regulators, industry bodies, strategic partners, and other senior external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated success leading through influence, bringing senior business and functional leaders together around shared priorities, resolving competing interests, and driving accountability for enterprise-wide client, commercial, risk, and people outcomes.
